Army Asks TIAX to Develop Self-Cleaning Textile Coating

In a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research award from the Army, TIAX has been asked to develop a textile coating that repels both water and oil-based contaminants.

The hypothesis is that fabrics that repel both water and oil might also be less susceptible to soiling and require less frequent laundering. Less frequent laundering would reduce logistical and economic burdens. By using a scalable process, the TIAX team plans to create a manufacturable solution that can be cost effectively integrated into many different Army garments.
