Project Highlights
Some of the projects completed by TIAX California include:
Emissions analysis
TIAX developed the California version of Argonne National Laboratory’s Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model, applying a customized life cycle analysis model that reflected the specific inputs of the state and private industry processes.
Policy assessment
In 2007, TIAX supported the State of California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act by assessing the market rollout and adoption of multiple alternative fuels. The resulting storylines were incorporated into the California Assembly Bill 1007 Alternative Fuels Plan to guide the increased use of alternative fuels in the state.
Vehicle incentives
In 2009, the U.S. EPA bestowed its “Clean Air Excellence Award” upon the San Pedro Bay Ports for their joint Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP). TIAX played a major role in developing and implementing the most ambitious and successful initiative of CAAP, the $2 billion Clean Trucks Program.
Policy development
In 2009, the National Academy of Science selected TIAX to assess technologies and costs for improving medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicle fuel economies. This study has become the basis for a national strategy for improving the fuel efficiency of our trucking fleet.
Market analysis
TIAX developed a comprehensive natural gas vehicle (NGV) market analysis for North America that examined the drivers, issues, and opportunities associated with natural gas fuel supply, vehicle manufacturers, end users, compressed and liquefied natural gas infrastructure, and government policies. This study also provided a thorough look at how NGVs compare to other fuel and vehicle technologies and developed scenario analyses to project how this market may unfold. The reports of this study are expected to be released in early 2012.
