TIAX has developed Cel-X™, an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) that is available for licensing and collaborative implementation. Cel-X includes novel cell-balancing hardware and software to improve the safety, capacity, and pack life of lithium-ion batteries. Using a non-dissipative approach that regulates and balances the state-of-charge of the individual cells that form the pack, Cel-X protects Li-ion battery packs from the detrimental effects caused by the unbalanced distribution of charge across cells. As a result, Cel-X enables the use of all the energy in the pack without being constrained by the lowest capacity cell—providing a significant advantage over conventional dissipative approaches to cell balancing. Cel-X can be integrated into an existing BMS design without incurring significant additional costs.
