Expander for Bottoming Cycle

TIAX has developed a scroll based bottoming cycle for improving energy efficiency.

Heavy duty diesel trucks have a duty cycle that lends itself to bottoming cycle energy recovery: Their engines run at a steady speed for long periods of time. About 20-25% of the injected fuel energy leaves the exhaust as heat. TIAX has developed a bottoming cycle that can capture 15 per cent of this energy and return it to the engine, either as shaft power — coupled to the engine through a belt — or power an electrical generator.

TIAX uses an Organic Rankine cycle and a patented, positive-displacement expander for energy recovery.
